In November 1999 Paddy Heron and Liz Cook attended a conference by Bill Wilson the president and founder of Metro Ministries based in New York. He was speaking about this urban evangelistic ministry (also known as Kidz Klub) which seeks to reach out to kids at risk in the toughest areas of New York by running weekly clubs, visiting families and much more!

Paddy and Liz were so inspired by what Bill had to say, how he lived his life and how the needs around CORE were so similar to those that Bill was trying to address in New York that they decided to go and see a Kidz Klub in operation in the heart of Liverpool, UK (since the start of Metro Ministries 25 years ago, the idea, vision and principles have spawned Kidz Klubs all over the world).
They found it an amazing experience to see how this club was run by the church community of Liverpool Frontline church, the profound impact that it was having in kids’ lives and the lives of their families, and that the principles underlying the ministry were universal, transferable from Brooklyn to Liverpool and so to Dublin 8!
The only thing that was left for them was to go and do it!!

Since Kidz Klub started in CORE we have had the privilege of building close links and friendships with many families living in the local area. Bill Wilson says ‘people want to know how much you care before they care how much you know.’ By being consistent and reliable in our relationships and our visiting we are now trusted and known at the local flat complexes. We have had opportunities to support and pray for individuals and families going through tough times, seeing God move through our prayers and requests.
Our hope is to see people in the area being drawn nearer to God through this consistent care and relationship. And now with Bingo and the Liberty Saints rugby team in action it’s not only the kids and their families we’re getting to come alongside but also some of the older bingo players and rugby playing young men living in the community!
Kidz Klub project motivates children to reach their full potential and to make healthy life choices. Enthusiastic, caring volunteers serve as positive role models for at-risk children. Interaction with the children through a weekly club and individual home visits consistently support and affirm each child. The Kidz Klub project is based on Christian principles.
