Grandma’s Ireland – A Service for Children affected by HIV/AIDS
Who can I turn to? Does anyone care? Can anyone help me?
I just want to talk to someone?……..
At Grandma’s, we passionately believe that Jesus is the answer to the problem of HIV, and that the Church, as His body on earth today, has a vital role to play by practically showing the mercy of God and the values of His Kingdom to people affected by HIV/AIDS.
Grandma’s has been working in Dublin since 1997. The primary care that we offer to our families is though childcare. We recognise that for many of our families, it is difficult to get a break from the daily routine of rearing their family, it’s also difficult to find someone who will mind their child if they have a hospital appointment. It can be a lonely, stressful, isolating time… a time when few people know what is really going on.
How better for the church to respond in care and love by showing God’s love in such a practical hands on way
In January 2009, Grandma’s took on the lease of a large Ministry Base in Dublin 8. We believe it is a safe place, a place of laughter, a place where everyone is welcomed, a place where the weary can come and lay their loads down….
Our families come and experience joy, they leave isolation and loneliness at the door as they meet with other Mum’s. We share stories over a cup of tea, we laugh together, cry together, pray together. The children have a wonderful time playing with all the great toys in the Children’s Room
Peace reigns here, no one ever wants to leave!
Come and join us……
There are many short term or long term opportunities for people to get involved with Grandma’s. Regular weekly family visiting remains our primary care, however perhaps you cannot commit to regularly visiting. Could you instead help out with events in our Ministry base (Mums n Tots mornings, DVD nights, Prayer and Praise times, Social Gatherings, Youth Zone?) Perhaps you work better with a team rather than on your own. Maybe you have a skill you would like to use and share with our Mums and families….. Or are you skilled in Office administration?
If so… Grandma’s would love to hear from you, we currently have a waiting list of over 30 families who would like to receive our service.
Volunteer Training Programmes are held throughout the year to train new volunteers. They cover areas from the Background of Grandma’s to basic Medical Facts about HIV/AIDS, the Role of the Volunteer and Spiritual issues & Prayer.
No Time to Volunteer? Time to Pray?!
Prayer is foundational to all we do. We aim to seek God for His plan and then respond in obedience to His word and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus said ‘I was sick and you looked after me. Whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine you did for me.’
Matthew 25:36,40
