CORE Week of Prayer – 6th – 13th March

CORE Week of Prayer – 6th – 13th March

As part of 24-7 prayer Ireland’s “What if?” year of prayer we are having a week of prayer here in CORE from Sunday 6th – 13th of March. In doing this we are joining with churches, communities and schools across Dublin who are joining together to pray in March. To read more about this year of prayer see http://www.24-7prayerireland.com/. Our week of prayer will be held in the Upper Room in CORE and will be open from 8am-8pm each day. Come for an hour or two and pray for the church, the city and the nation! I would encourage you to come in and use the prayer room, it will be set up as an interactive prayer space, but I know for some of you that might not be possible so feel free to sign up for an hour and pray at home – just let me know! Sign up for a slot at the welcome desk on Sunday or by clicking on this link:

Maintenance help needed!

Maintenance help needed!

Do you have practical skills that could help us here with building maintenance? There are lots of odd jobs we could do with some extra help with and we are looking for people who have skills in areas such as carpentry, plumbing etc. If interested contact James (james@corechurch.ie).

Ministry Focus: Kidz Klub Junior Leaders

Ministry Focus: Kidz Klub Junior Leaders

The ‘junior leaders club’ came about, as kids from the area outgrew Kidz Klub but wanted to keep going, how amazing is that!! Paddy and some of the Kidz Klub volunteers put together a group originally for the girls only that would meet once a month to have fellowship, cook some treats and learn some more about God. Now we have up to 12 kids coming every week both boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18.
The format is much like a home group, we start with a light meal, then have a teaching – at the moment we are working through the gifts of the Holy Spirit – and finish off with a couple of games. We have various outings, having recently been on a night walk to Cruagh Wood (you can only imagine the screaming!!) and we are linked in with other youth groups around the city including Dublin Christian Mission(beside the four courts) and 3Rock and also CORE Kids. Many of the junior leaders now come along to church on a Sunday.
I love volunteering with this group, because the kids are so much fun, and in an area that is so dark, taken over by a cycle of poverty, drugs and alcohol – these kids are the bright future, they will break the mould. They will crack you up, give you a headache and melt your heart all in one evening. If you want to know Gods plans for Dublin 8, this is where it is. – Clodagh O Reilly

Election – Why vote?

Election – Why vote?

With public confidence in our government and politicians at a record low it would be easy to give up on voting. “Sure what’s the point, they’re all the same” is a frequently heard comment. The recent events in Egypt remind us that living in a democracy, albeit a flawed one, does give us the opportunity to influence how our nation is governed. As followers of Jesus we want to ‘seek the good of the city’ and be good neighbours. Voting is one way of pursuing God’s agenda of justice and ensuring that the ‘least’ in our communities are treated fairly. To that end Sean Mullan (EAI) and Patrick Mitchel (IBI) have written a helpful article looking at “” areas for Christians to consider when voting such as justice, generosity, money and work, power and accountability. You can read the article here: http://bit.ly/election10points. The Elections Ireland website provides a helpful overview of who is standing in your constituency and links to their websites and policies – www.electionsireland.org. As we approach the election let’s pray for all the parties and candidates, and that God will enable us to vote wisely.

Prayer Requests and Thanksgivings

Prayer Requests and Thanksgivings

• Keep Jon, Kathryn, Zach and Sofia in prayer as they settle back into the UK and adjust to this new season in their lives.
• Mark Railton’s church in Carrickfergus have asked us to pray for a family in their church. who have two children with vanishing white matter syndrome. This is a very rare genetic disease and is fatal. There is no cure. Their church are praying for healing for the children, Noah and Gracie. Also pray for their parents Greg and Sarah.

Prayer requests from Nepal:

• Cover for Prashna as she returns home from the mission work in the hills.
• Reassurance from God that the dream they have experienced (turmoil is coming in Nepal) will be part of His plan for the harvesting of the nation.
• That Mosa will be an effective teacher at the conference in the discussion on local sustainability of Christian churches in the region.
