A Week of Fasting and Prayer

A Week of Fasting and Prayer

On Sunday 16th May through to the 23rd we are taking time as a church community to fast and pray and to seek God as we enter into a new season at CORE. Jon introduced the week on Sunday 2nd May and will give us more information regarding what the week will look like, what is fasting? Why fast? and how to fast? We want to encourage as many people to join us.
Details are available on the leaflets at the back of the Church.

Music Session @ the Clock

Music Session @ the Clock

The first of the regular monthly music sessions in the Clock pub on Friday last went really well. Being a Friday night there were not nearly as many punters there as at the Collide event, nor were there as many CORE people, we all fitted into the little raised section reserved for us beneath the large TV screen. It was a lot less formal than the Collide evening in that there were no line-ups and this lead to a very relaxed and easy atmosphere. We started off with a couple of Irish trad tunes and then we had various people come up to sing a couple of songs and more trad music, more songs etc. I brought a small 50W guitar amp and a mic and my acoustic guitar was amplified just to raise the music up a notch, with Salla Heron’s lovely flute playing and David Gibson’s harmonica being heard quite easy in the mix. We had John Hutchinson playing 3 great bluesy/bluegrass style songs on guitar which everyone loved and Pat Sweeney played and sang some popular songs that got everyone singing like at the Collide. 3 other musicians outside of Core also joined us for the trad muisc (John Cleere, Paul Granger and Mick ?). Everyone that spoke to me said they really enjoyed it (or else hadn’t the courage to tell me otherwise:-).
We plan to have the Clock sessions on the 2nd Friday of every month, so the next session will fall on June 11th. Now this being the first day of the World Cup there will be a match showing on the big screen in the pub from 7.30pm til around 9.30pm, so we will either have it in the small room on right as you come in the door or else have it the week before, watch this space for announcement !! If we do decide to have it on June 11th why not come along to watch the match and then join us for some great music afterwards!
Thanks to all those who came and supported, really appreciate it. Would love to see more CORE musicians, singers and spectators at next sessions
:-)
God bless

Last Friday night we had another great Music Session at the Clock Pub.
The evening began at 8pm and there was a variety of music and musicians in attendance. Haunting Celtic Airs and more upbeat numbers provided much enjoyment, created by Salla’s flute playing, Barry on the Bodhran/Guitar, Pat on Guitar/Mouth Organ, David on the Mouth Organ and John on the Fiddle. Several other musicians made an appearance including one Tin Whistle player who drove up from Portarlington!
Throughout the night, anyone who wanted to sing a song or play a special piece had the opportunity to do so. Songbooks were provided which were of great assistance. There were people from all parts of the City, North, South, East and West. Some people from Lucan brought guests who really enjoyed the evening. A good night was had by all with over 20 people in attendance.
Our official photographer, Paul Mc was also in attendance and captured the many fun moments on his camera. The Management and Bar Staff in The Clock were very pleased with the turnout and entertainment and the locals enjoyed the music, singing and comraderie also.

Kidz Klub trip to SU Avoca

Kidz Klub trip to SU Avoca

Scripture union had an Open day in Avoca Manor called the “Big Day Out” last Sunday and Paddy brought 11 youth from the church and Kidz Klub junior leaders down for the day. After some initial grumbling from some of the KK junior leaders a good day was had by all. The weather was gorgeous and the teens cooked their lunch on a BBQ. Some of them got to use the Zip line and climbing wall as well as archery. We got them all back alive so Praise God for that!

Paddy.

MAD

(Make a Difference) is taking place on Sunday the 20th June from 2pm-10pm in Glenealy, Co Wicklow

Staged for the first time in 2008 and then in 2009, MAD attracted over 2,000 people. This year the line-up is even more spectacular and amongst the many top acts there are groups like – WORSHIP CENTRAL BAND -Praise for real people from one of the top UK praise bands out of London.
L Z 7 – Flying in from Manchester, this is a high-energy and explosive six piece Christian rap group, mixing rock, hip-hop and tough street beats. It’s loud and very spectacular!
SHELL PERRIS: Former UK girl-band star, her very contemporary sound and lyrics present a powerful message of hope for real life flying in specially from Ohio, Christian band TBR places heavy emphasis on its live shows – spin kicks, guitar swings and multiple members in the air are common. They are reaping huge commercial success in the US, UK and Europe and it is a unique opportunity to see this world class Christian band live on their first visit to Ireland.
YFRIDAY – YFriday comes to MAD on the back of six successful albums-including their best know track “Everlasting God.”
Also scheduled to appear are: Dublin Gospel Choir; Tom + Olly; RONAN JOHNSTON & EMMAUS
Although focussed mainly on the teenage to 30 year old age group, it is very much a Christian festival for all ages. The event takes place in one of the most beautiful valley’s of Co, Wicklow, the perfect place for a church and/or a family day out.
