Jobcare Supporters Evening on Thursday 21st October 7.30pm

On Thursday the 21st October we at CORE are hosting the Jobcare annual Supporters evening. This is an opportunity for people to learn more about the work Jobcare have been doing with the long-term unemployed in Dublin’s inner city for the last 16 years. The night is a celebration of Jobcare’s work and will include a time of prayer and worship as well as an opportunity to hear some stories of what God is doing through Jobcare.
As a church we really want to encourage and support Jobcare and it would be great to get as many people from the congregation to come along to this event. For more info on Jobcare have a look at their website www.jobcare.ie, where there are film and radio interviews and details of the different courses and programmes they deliver.
Alpha Course 2011 – Recruiting Leaders

The Alpha course is a 10-week course that is open to everyone interested in discovering what Christianity is about and is designed primarily for those who are not churchgoers. We are planning to run an Alpha course in the New Year and are currently looking to gather a team of people interested in helping out.
We are holding a training evening for those interested on the evening of Sunday the 7th November. Paddy Monaghan of Alpha Ireland will be coming along to speak at this.
If you are interested talk to Jon and come along on the 7th!Review of Equipping The Saints – Prayer Ministry Training on 10th October

Last Sunday in Core our second “Equipping the Saints” Training Evening was held. The focus was on Prayer Ministry Training. After worship and sharing (Psalm 27 was quoted), Jon did a short talk on the basics of praying with others followed by practical application.
We pray in the name and authority of Jesus, not dependant on ourselves, but invoking the power of the Holy Spirit. We are bringing the finished work of Jesus on the Cross, wholeness and healing, to those we are praying with. Jon quoted from the words of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel, reminding us that this is good news to the poor (i.e. those who recognise their need for Jesus) and it involves Salvation (a word which means “to bring into a wide open space”).
Jon then went on to teach on some of the practical aspects of praying with people which includes compassion; creating a safe space; welcoming people; giving and asking people’s names; blessing people; being friendly and welcoming Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
We then had a practical demonstration by Jon with 2 people who requested prayer. This was followed by all present praying with each other in groups of two’s, each person having the opportunity to pray with the other person and to receive prayer themselves. The feedback from that was very positive. Many people reported being encouraged and blessed by the time of prayer and also by words and pictures that were given.
Some people from other churches attended as well as people from Core. – Mary Finn
Review of Collide Event - Jason Upton Concert on 9th October

Last Saturday evening, a Core Collide Social Evening was organised, joining with other Churches in the City to attend a Concert by the American singer Jason Upton in The Exchange (Trinity Network) Church. The evening began with two talented Irish musicians, a Harpist and a Flautist (using the low flute), playing harmonious and relaxing spirit-lead music over the several hundred people who attended the event. Many people remarked afterwards on both the beauty and anointing of this music.
Jason Upton and his four-man band then took to the stage and sang several uplifting songs, some were fast and others were slow. Jason writes all of his own lyrics and he is poetic, philosophical, prophetic and anointed. He can touch transmit the heart of God to the hearts of his hearers, both young and old. He is able to communicate important truths of Jesus and the Christian life in a contemporary blend of music and singing. (eg. “To the Empire, you are just a number. But to the Lord, he knows you by name”). Many people joined in with the singing (the words were all on the overheads) and stood to their feet in praise and worship during several of the songs.
At the end of the evening he and his band were given rapturous and robust applause in thanksgiving for a wonderful evening of worship, music and song. His CD’s were available for sale afterwards. Many people were very blessed by the evening, there were several hundred in attendance from all over Dublin and also from around the country. – Mary Finn
