Prayer Vision Meeting

Prayer Vision Meeting

Hi All, next Tuesday, the 15th Feb. at 7.30pm (in CORE) we are meeting to explore and brainstorm what prayer could look like here in CORE. There are lots of ideas floating around of what we could do in terms of prayer in this new season. So this is an opportunity to bring and share your ideas, hear others peoples suggestions and hopefully start pulling together a vision for prayer in the church. This quote from Oswald Chambers strikes me as significant for us at this time of transition: “Prayer does not fit us for the greater work.
Prayer is the greater work”
So if you can come along on the 15th please do. If you are not able to make it but would like to contribute your suggestions please email me at pa.corechurch@gmail.com or come talk to me on Sunday, Amy

Trad/Folk Session in the Clock Pub, Thomas St. – Friday 11th February 8pm

Trad/Folk Session in the Clock Pub, Thomas St. – Friday 11th February 8pm

Hope you all can make it, can you pass this on to any other musicians/singers who you think may be interested. It will be a mixture of Irish trad music, bluegrass, folk, and any singer/songwriter songs anyone wants to sing. There will be an Open Mic!! All welcome.

Changes in the Crèche

Changes in the Crèche

As announced on Sunday, due to the reduction in the number of babies in the church and to utilise volunteers elsewhere the CORE Kids team has decided to have the crèche unsupervised for the rest of this term. The room will still be available to parents and babies and the cupboards will be left unlocked. We do ask that if you use the room that you tidy up after you. We are also working on getting the speakers in the crèche back into action so parents will still be able to listen to the sermon. We will keep an eye on how this works out and will review the situation for next term.

Review of EGM

Review of EGM

Thank you to all who made it along to our EGM last Wednesday. It was really encouraging to have over 60 people come along and contribute to an enthusiastic, lively and honest discussion of where we are going as a church.
Two elections were held on the night and it was exciting to have our Nehemiah Group more than double in size with the addition of 7 new members. Congratulations to the new recruits: Clodagh O’Reilly, Peter Gannon, Dorothy Godsil, John Lyons, Sarah Marshall, David Lea & Mark Railton.
Congratulations also to those who were elected onto the team who will be working alongside the trustees to select our new minister. The four members are Philip Larragy (representing the Nehemiah Group), Graham Jones (representing the Transition Team) and Mary Finn and Kate O’Ceallaigh (representing the congregation). This team will be involved throughout the process of selection over the coming months.
On the night copies of the Truscott Report were also given out (copies are still available at the Welcome desk) – if you have any queries, questions or comments regarding this or the EGM itself please put them in writing and send them to pa.corechurch@gmail.com before the 20th Feb. so that they can be compiled and presented to the Trustees when they meet with the transition team on the 23rd Feb.

Review of Urban Nations Conference

Review of Urban Nations Conference

What is God’s (and your) vision for Dublin? This question perhaps sums up the Urban Nation conference (hosted by Tearfund, IBI and iMAP). Over the course of the day various speakers explored what this looks like in different contexts – from creating community by developing a theology of hope based on children, justice, community and beauty (Joe Donnelly) to making the most of our relational networks to influence the influencers. It was inspiring and encouraging to be united with people from churches across the city, coming together to wrestle with how we can ‘seek the good of the city’. A number of stalls (including CORE church) gave us opportunities to get involved practically. Keynote speaker Joel Edwards of the Micah Network left us with plenty of questions to ponder such as: how do our church budgets reflect the social needs of our area? What is the difference between a church coexisting with a community and a church penetrating and transforming a community? Do we have a theology of well-being that goes beyond Jesus sorting out your problems? For me the lasting challenge was his comment that “inner city mission can only happen through partnership.” As we seek the good of the community God has placed us in – who do we need to partner with to make our kingdom vision a reality? – Sam Moore.

Prayer Requests and Thanksgivings

Prayer Requests and Thanksgivings

• Give thanks for the EGM last week, for the turnout, for the clarity that it brought, for the honesty and transparency from all involved and for the tangible sense of anticipation of the “Greater things yet to come” for us as a church.
• Keep Jon, Kathryn, Zach and Sofia in prayer as they prepare for their move to the UK this and as they move into a new season in their lives.
• Please keep the Prayer vision Meeting next Tuesday in prayer. Pray that the Spirit would guide us and that God’s heart for prayer in the church would be revealed.
