Awakening: Week of Prayer and Fasting

Awakening: Week of Prayer and Fasting

Craig writes: “It is clear that God is at work among us here at CORE and we are so thankful for his goodness. At the start of this New Year we want to take time out to seek His face, to hear His voice, and to pray for His provision in 2012. With that in mind we will have a week set aside from Sunday 22nd – Saturday 28th January to pray and fast.
First, don’t panic! – if you can’t fast the whole week there will be about 6 different options available to choose from. I will be outlining these at the Sunday services in the next few weeks. Secondly, whether you are new to the Church or an ‘old timer’, this week is for YOU. We want every person who considers themselves part of CORE to be involved and have an input into what God is doing here. Don’t opt out – opt in. And finally, it is good to start the year as we intend to go on. If we are to see God’s Kingdom come here in our Church and city, we need to be a people of passionate and persistent prayer. January is a ‘first-fruits’ month which sets the course for our lives for the rest of the year, and so let all of us determine in our hearts that 2012 will be our year of experiencing God more than we ever have before.
There will be a number of prayer gatherings during that week and also a House Meeting (aka Town Hall) on Sunday 29th Jan. so we can all feedback what we sense God might be saying to us. In the meantime, stay close to Him and know that He loves you more than you could ever imagine. Craig”

CORE Kids Volunteers Evening

CORE Kids Volunteers Evening

On Monday 30th January from 7.30-9.30pm we will be gathering together all of those on our CORE Kids team – teachers and helpers and anyone interested in getting involved. We will be looking forward to the year ahead, talking through some of the changes and welcoming Paddy as our new CORE Kids overseer. Please stick the date in your diary now as it will creep up soon and it would be great to have everyone together.

Changes in C.O.R.E Staff

As was announced before Christmas James Reid our administrator finished up with us at the end of the year. This decision unfortunately had to be made by the Trustees due to our current financial situation. Although numbers worshipping on a Sunday have increased significantly in recent months, we expect it will take the first half of 2012 for giving to catch up. In addition to James leaving Amy’s hours will be reduced from 3 days to 2 days a week. This will work out at a half day each day Monday – Thursday. Paddy’s role will also be changing and he will be taking on overseeing CORE kids one day a week with the rest of the week still dedicated to Kidz Klub and community outreach. We want to say a big THANK YOU to James for all his hard work over the last 3 years and his dedication to his work. He will definitely be missed! Please have patience with us all as we grapple with all of these changes over the coming months. Be aware that we may not be able to respond as quickly as before but we will endeavour to do our best.

Envelope Scheme – New envelopes are in!

Envelope Scheme – New envelopes are in!

For those of you who are using the envelope scheme your new envelopes are available for collection at the welcome desk this Sunday – please take the SAME number as last year. If you are interested in using the envelope scheme as your method of giving here in C.O.R.E contact the office on 4735100.
This allows you to put in variable cash donations during the year in a way agreed with the Revenue that can count towards the tax relief. The principle is this: you sign up to take a numbered envelope say number 26 and you get 52 envelopes with this number on and you put in each week what you wish to contribute. These are tallied under the number 26 and then we can produce a PAYE form at the end of the year for these contributions.

Solas Project: Room Request

Solas Project: Room Request

By now many of you have met Solas Project’s intern Lisa. Lisa graduated from school in Germany during the summer and is taking a year out to help her decide what to do next. Lisa is also helping out with Kidz Klub while she is here. For her first few months we have found temporary accommodation for her but are looking for somewhere for her to live from February until she leaves in August (or for part of this time). So do you have a spare room or know someone who does? Lisa will do her own shopping and cooking and a contribution will be made towards bills. If you are interested or would like more information please email amy@solasproject.ie.
