It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Ephesians 4:11-13
We love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). It is with the confidence of knowing that our Creator loves us dearly that allows us love and also be loved by those around us. It is through this shared experience with fellow followers of Christ that we understand the need to be part of a fellowship of believers, a community based on the firm foundations of the teachings of Jesus Christ.
This need has led to smaller groups within the larger community meeting during the week to chat, have a laugh, pray, look at the bible together and be there for one another to share in the good times and encourage one another in the difficult. These small groups have their own distinct nature but more importantly each has the same common calling to worship, love and serve.
Each small group should be a place where we can be stretched beyond our own capabilities allowing each of us to fully appreciate our own giftings so that in turn we can serve the body of Christ and in that process become more like Christ. “Live a life worthy of the calling you have received” (Ephesians 4).
